They look like something that an elementary school child may have written. The language is generic and lacks originality. While I love the themes in this book, I didn't like the writing as much. I can also see adult readers teaching a relevant bible story to go with the rhymes. Adult readers can ask children to consider how the bible verses relate to the topic of the rhymes. This provides a good learning opportunity for young readers. What I enjoyed most about the text is that the rhymes are interspersed with relevant bible verses. (And I'm sure it'll be much more enjoyable reading this to my preschool Sunday School class when the Thanksgiving season comes around!) I enjoyed the artwork almost as much as I did reading these verses aloud to my puppy. Beautiful artwork supplements these verses.
I can see children recalling these verses as situations remind them of a particular rhyme. Because of their brevity, these verses will be easy for children to remember. The book features rhyming verses that are easy to read aloud. I love this premise because it's so easy to rejoice over the big blessings that we often forget the little blessings in life. It’s definitely a classic keeper that will stay on her shelves for years to come and hopefully be a book she cherishes enough to pass on to her own children someday! My daughter (aged six months) loved looking at them as I read her this book! I would highly recommend this book to other families with small children and look forward to reading this all year long with my little girl. Then the pages are filled with thanks for others' love, sounds, food, songs, weather, laughter, autumn leaves, etc. Now about the thanksgiving prayers in this little padded cover board book. The illustrations are, as are all Precious Moments drawings, beautifully charming.
No, these are not classics, but they are worthy of keeping, loving, treasuring. Rhymes that further the love of literature in its beauty. There is such a wealth of thankfulness beautifully expressed in well composed rhymes that lend themselves to memory or recollection.
Though it will be used a lot by each child or family, it will be carefully used and treasured. This is one of those special books that get passed down from child to child or generation to generation.
